Rafting is a popular and a challenging sport, many people choose to take rafting one step further by whitewater rafting, which involves navigating the raft over various degrees of harsh or rough water. The excitement and thrill that some people experience when doing this is much the same thrill as people experience when choosing to ride extreme theme park rides. Whitewater rafting certainly does get the adrenalin pumping. It has been a popular leisure sport since the 1970’s and continues to excite and thrill to this day.
There are many white water rafting locations all over the world, and many of the people who try this sport, aim for bigger and better locations each time. There are some locations nearer to home. Bala in North Wales is home to a white water rafting operation, which was the first commercial one developed back in 1986. The river Tryweryn is based in Wales and has a constant flow of good whitewater rafting water, this is due to it being based under a dam, meaning that the water which is released from the dam provides a constant flow of water for rafting all year round, which is unlike some of the other whitewater rafting locations. The Tryweryn is usually in operation when all of the other rivers have dried up. This is one of the reasons why people choose to whitewater raft this kind of river constantly seeking out thrills and danger and pushing themselves that bit further in order to achieve that ultimate adrenalin rush. At one time of the day it would have been impossible for anyone who wore glasses to enjoy such a rush, without having the added worry of whether they would lose their glasses, or end up with them so wet that they could not see.
This has all changed since the invention of contact lenses, up until a few years back, contact lens (Kontaktlinsen) was ok for the first few hours, but after that initial period they would often become uncomfortable and the eyes would become sore and itchy. The thought of leaving the lens in over night was not a good one, as doing this would usually result in the wearer having to peel the lens away from the pupil in the morning, the eyes would then end up feeling sore, and the only solution would then be to wear glasses for the next week or so. Air Optix has changed all of this, these are breathable contact lenses which allow the eyes to breath, meaning that they can be worn over night and are much more comfortable than earlier designs of contact lenses. There are many styles and designs which are available in these lenses, there are also colored lenses (farbige Kontaktlinsen), which are available purely for vanity reasons, but these lenses mean the wearer can change their eye colour, dependent on what their mood is.
